RaDEX step by step
Choose this ground if
You are already in Argentina, entered lawfully and know your residency ground.
Essential evidence
Lawful entry, apostilled documents with sworn translations, an address and the paid fee.
Do not choose it if
You are abroad or have not chosen your ground yet.
What you receive
A precaria right after the review, then the residency decision and the foreigner DNI.
What must be proved
The name of the route is not decisive; the evidence supporting its facts is. For this ground, the central proof is:
Legal structure
RaDEX is a filing channel, not a residency ground. The system takes the application under the chosen category, issues the precaria and handles all correspondence electronically.
- Status
- Filing channel
- Legal basis
- Migration Law 25,871 as amended by DNU 366/2025; Migraciones rules for electronic filing (RaDEX)
- Status duration
- Not a status but a filing channel: the term depends on the category
- Renewal
- Residency renewals (prórroga) are also filed in RaDEX
- Work
- Yes — on the precaria issued after filing
- Study
- Yes — on the precaria
- DNI
- After the residency is approved
- Family
- No: each family member files separately
Who it fits
- No MERCOSUR
- Others, if they meet the ground
Who it normally does not fit
It does not fit where the central fact cannot be documented, the actual circumstances belong to another category, or identity, criminal-record or migration-history issues remain unresolved.
Eligibility check
- Lawful entry: an entry stamp or electronic record and an unexpired stay
- A clear ground: Argentine child, marriage, rentista, pension, work, study, etc.
- An address in Argentina and a valid passport
- Identify the exact category and statutory provision, not only its informal label.
- Review current status, earlier filings, refusals, violations and every border movement.
- Check names, dates, places of birth and family links across all records.
- Review criminal records and any potential impediment.
- Prove that the central qualifying fact exists for the required period.
Documents
Prepare before travel
- Criminal record certificates from every country where you lived more than a year in the last three years (everyone over 16), apostilled
- Birth and marriage certificates, apostilled
- Proof of your ground: income, pension, contract, enrolment letter
- Valid passport and earlier passports used for entry.
- Birth, marriage, divorce and name-change records as relevant.
- Police certificates from the required countries and periods.
- Ground-specific evidence: contract, enrolment, income, pension, kinship or investment.
- Apostille or legalisation and a plan for an admissible translation.
Obtain or complete in Argentina
- Sworn translation of every foreign document, legalised by the Colegio de Traductores
- Proof of address: a lease or a bill in your name
- The Argentine criminal record is requested inside RaDEX
- For parents of an Argentine child — the child’s partida and DNI
- Proof of entry and current immigration status.
- Argentine police certificate where required.
- Domicile and local records required by the current checklist.
- Translations and certifications by accepted professionals.
- Receipts, filing certificate, precaria, notices and a complete case copy.
The exact checklist depends on nationality, issuing country, age, family status and immigration history. Validity, format, apostille or legalisation and translation must be checked before filing.
Procedure
- Choose the ground and the exact category — RaDEX will not tell you which one fits
- Apostille certificates in the issuing country
- Register in RaDEX and fill in the form
- Upload scans: colour originals, all pages, translations separately
- Pay the fee in the system: 100,000 pesos for temporary residency for non-Mercosur nationals
- Save the precaria PDF — it is issued after the first review
- Answer requests (intimación) on time — they arrive by email and in the system
- Attend the in-person appointment at Migraciones with all originals
- Receive the decision, then apply for the foreigner DNI
- Legally classify the case and compare alternatives.
- Build a document, validity, apostille and translation matrix.
- Resolve inconsistencies before filing.
- Use the current channel and correct category; retain every receipt.
- Monitor notices, requests and appointments.
- After approval, check residence, DNI, renewal and travel limits.
Timing and costs
The duration of a status is not the processing time. Real timing depends on completeness, appointments, agency requests and workload. Official fees must be checked immediately before payment.
Additional costs: apostilles in the issuing country, sworn translations and Colegio legalisation, copies and notary costs if needed.
Outcome and limits
Status: Filing channel. DNI: After the residency is approved. Work: Yes — on the precaria issued after filing.
One person’s status does not automatically extend to relatives. Each adult and child needs a separate review of legal ground, evidence and effects.
Renewal, permanent residence and citizenship
Renewal: Residency renewals (prórroga) are also filed in RaDEX.
Permanent residence: Permanent residency is also filed in RaDEX — usually after three years of temporary residency; time on precaria does not count.
Citizenship: Naturalisation through Migraciones after DNU 366/2025 requires two years of lawful residence without leaving the country; these rules are being challenged in court.
Risks and refusal grounds
- Wrong category: the file is stopped or refused
- A missed request (intimación) can close the file
- Expired precaria: you cannot leave without a habilitación de salida (40,000 pesos)
- Filing one application for the whole family — each person needs their own
- Uploading a translation not made by an Argentine sworn translator
- Not checking email and spam: notices are electronic only
- Missing the precaria renewal window while waiting for the appointment
- Evidence proves a similar fact but not the legal ground.
- Expired record, missing apostille or inadmissible translation.
- Unexplained differences in names, dates or parentage.
- Missed notice, appointment or response deadline.
- Actual activity differs from the declared category.
- Assuming one status automatically covers the family.
- Travel, violations or earlier refusals were not reviewed.
