Basic, Comfort or Premium: which birth support package to choose
An honest comparison of the three packages: what each includes, what none of them include, real family scenarios and what the whole trip costs including the clinic.

In short
The packages differ in how much we take off your hands, not in the quality of medical care: in every case you choose the clinic and doctor yourself and pay them directly.
- Basic — USD 2,900: the baby’s documents and an interpreter at key stages. Everything else is up to you.
- Comfort — USD 4,900: plus the parents’ residence and DNI, housing search, airport pick-up and clinic transfers.
- Premium — USD 8,400: plus a personal coordinator every day, a driver, a doula, help with the bank, paediatrician and household, and the “Baby’s home-country documents” package as a gift (usually USD 290).
If it is your first time, you don’t speak Spanish or the mother is flying alone, look at Premium. If you have lived in Argentina before and know your way around, Basic may be enough.

What no package includes
Better to know this upfront so the budget holds no surprises:
- The clinic and doctor. You sign the contract with the clinic directly and pay it yourself. A guide figure for an uncomplicated vaginal birth in a private Buenos Aires clinic is USD 3,000–6,000; a caesarean costs more. How to choose a clinic: “Where to give birth in Buenos Aires”.
- Tests, examinations, neonatal care and complications. Days in the neonatal ICU are usually not part of the clinic’s base price — keep a reserve of 10–15% of the budget.
- Government fees and sworn translations, unless the contract says otherwise. For example, a newborn’s first DNI is free, while a foreigner’s DNI for each parent costs 20,000 pesos under the RENAPER fee schedule in force since March 2026.
- The rent itself. Comfort and Premium include the housing search, but you pay for the apartment — to the owner or the agency. What the rent includes: our article on expensas and the agency fee.
- Flights, insurance, food and personal expenses.
- Guarantees of government decisions or medical outcomes. We organise, interpret and file documents, but decisions are made by doctors and the authorities.
Why not a public hospital: since 2025–2026 both city and national hospitals bill foreigners without residence for scheduled care; only emergency care is free.
Who Basic suits
Families who have been to Argentina before, speak Spanish or are ready to run daily life themselves: rent an apartment, sort out a phone line and transport, take a taxi to the clinic. We cover the areas where mistakes cost the most — choosing the clinic, interpreting at appointments and the birth, and the baby’s documents.
What stays with you: housing, transfers, the bank, the paediatrician and everyday matters. If the parents need residence, it can be added for USD 450. One of our clients chose Basic for exactly that reason and wrote that “in our case the Basic option was enough”.
Who Comfort suits
First-time visitors who want the whole family’s documents under one contract: the baby’s birth certificate, DNI and passport plus the parents’ temporary residence and DNI filing. We find an apartment near the clinic, meet you at the airport and drive you to appointments and to the birth.
What stays with you: everyday life after the birth, the bank, finding a paediatrician; the coordinator is available during working hours. It suits a couple who fly together and are ready to handle the first weeks with the baby themselves.
Who Premium suits
- A first birth, thousands of kilometres from home and Spanish that stops at “gracias” — you need someone in touch every day, not only during office hours.
- A driver and coordinator take logistics, queues and translation off the family: no need to deal with addresses, taxis and paperwork.
- A doula and daily support in the first weeks after the birth, when it is hardest for the mother.
- Help with the bank, paediatrician and household, and “Baby’s home-country documents” is already included as a gift.
The difference from Comfort is USD 3,500 for a 2–3 month trip. A client who chose Premium: “We didn’t want to save on our own peace of mind.”
Scenarios: what families choose
| Situation | Usual choice | What to watch |
|---|---|---|
| Second child, you have lived in Buenos Aires, you speak Spanish | Basic | Do the parents need residence? Then add USD 450 |
| First birth, flying as a couple, want residence too | Comfort | After the birth, daily life is on the two of you |
| The mother flies alone, the husband comes later or only for the birth | Premium | Coordinator and driver every day; we meet the husband too |
| Travelling with an older child | Premium or Comfort | Plan in advance who stays with the older child during the birth |
| You are staying in Argentina after the birth | Comfort or Premium | Later the “First year in Argentina” package (USD 990) on the After birth page helps |
| The baby quickly needs a passport of the parents’ country to fly home | Premium (gift) or USD 290 with any package | Consular appointments and the apostille take weeks — plan right away |
If the mother is flying alone, read “Mom-to-be, you are not alone”. The baby’s documents step by step: “Baby documents after birth”; the parents’ residence: “Parents’ residence and DNI”.
What the whole trip costs
The package is only part of the budget. A rough estimate for 2–3 months and an uncomplicated birth:
| Item | Basic | Premium |
|---|---|---|
| Support | USD 2,900 (+USD 450 for parents’ residence) | USD 8,400 |
| Clinic and doctor, paid directly | USD 3,000–6,000 | USD 3,000–6,000 |
| Housing, flights, living costs | depend on area, season and departure city | the same |
| Documents, fees, translations | usually USD 300–700 | usually USD 300–700 |
| Contingency reserve | 10–15% of the budget | 10–15% of the budget |

Item by item: the difference between Basic and Comfort is USD 2,000. It covers the parents’ residence (USD 450 separately), the housing search (a separate service at USD 350), the airport pick-up, clinic transfers and extra interpreter hours.
Common mistakes when choosing
- Assuming the clinic is included. It isn’t in any package — budget for it separately.
- Taking Basic “to save money” without Spanish. The savings quickly go on taxis, middlemen and time lost in queues.
- Forgetting the parents’ residence. Basic doesn’t include it — decide in advance whether you need it and add it right away.
- Not planning the baby’s home-country documents. Without a passport of the parents’ country the flight home may slip — Premium already includes this.
- Choosing a package after arrival. Housing and a shortlist of doctors and clinics are best prepared before you fly, so the doctor interviews happen in your first days.
How to choose
Start with a consultation: we go through your due date, family, documents and budget and tell you honestly which package is enough. For most families coming for the first time we recommend Premium — but the decision is always yours.
